Hi my name is Roberta Donovan and I am the founder of Better SA.
I am a marketer by profession and have enjoyed a truly blessed career in companies such as Ogilvy Cape Town, South African Breweries and Unilever. However, I have always felt called to make more of an impact through my vocation, and have been particularly passionate about volunteering and the South African need.
I started volunteering in 2004 for the Amy Biehl foundation and ever since have volunteered regularly and led hundreds of my friends and family into volunteering initiatives. It was in 2010 that I had that AHA! Moment. That lightbulb moment that would forever change the direction of my life and career. In that moment I realised that my life’s purpose is to mobilise volunteers; to expose as many people as possible to the transformational experience of volunteering and the numerous benefits for the volunteer. I incubated that life purpose for 4 years and over those years started building a concept and a plan. In March 2014 I walked away from a corporate career and Better SA was born a few months later.
I am so excited about this organisation and the impact it will have on South Africa. I truly believe that Better SA has the potential to be the most participated in, and talked about, social change initiative of this decade.
South Africa has never needed this initiative more than it does now.
Let’s do this!
